For example Quake Live and OnLive gaming. Yes there is a dependency on our connections, but connection speeds are increasing at an exponential rate. Connectivity wired or wireless as an issue is being eliminated. In regards to price. 10 years ago hosting a blog would cost you every month, now its free. Cloud service to run apps will move to being free for the consumer over time.<br /><br />Two: I can&#39;t think of one desktop app that could not be moved to the cloud. Local desktop/offline storage is here with HTML5, connectivity is getting faster. What app should stay local?<br /><br />Four: I think the idea is that in the desktop world you deal with developing for multiple OSes, how to handle drivers, manage memory, getting users to upgrade there local version. This is complex when the same functions can be provided in a simpler delivery method via a web browser. The app can be just as complex but the delivery/deployment is not.<br /><br />Nine: OS matters to you as an end user, but should not matter to the application being developed. For example I can run Microsoft Docs or Google Docs on my Linux box and you can have the same experience on your Mac or Windows machine. OS would no longer matter to the application (or to the guy developing the application)<br /><br />Ten: I agree. <br /><br />I agree the cloud does not solve all problems but I believe it will become a key component of all solutions over the next 10-20 years. If you had a fast enough connection and unlimited processing power in the cloud what does it matter if the &quot;system&quot; running your app is under your desk or 1000 miles away. Anything that is graphics oriented needs to run on the desktop. Data oriented applications can run on the cloud. Free software is another example. For example, if I&#39;m using free software (XMind, for example) why would I want to pay to run it on the cloud?<br /><br />Two: Depends on what the app is doing. Browsers are good for data related apps, but there are many that browsers are not good for.<br /><br />Four: It depends on if the complexity is required. Most apps are too complex, but many apps need to be. Simple is only better if simple is required.<br /><br />Nine: OS matters tremendously.<br /><br />Ten: Information doesn&#39;t _want_ anything. It just is.<br /><br />That said, there is a lot good that is coming out of cloud computing.
